New BLO production US Premiere of the 1841 critical edition
A sea captain doomed by a curse to an existence of eternal wandering, a yearning heroine desperate to escape her restricting world – set against the uncontrolled violence of the sea. Their passionate encounter is a story of compelling tension and musical intensity. Senta, the heroine, leads a tormented life of spiritual isolation and buried secrets and this new production tells the dramatic story from her point of view as a product of her tortured imagination.
Wagner’s early masterpiece is presented in honor of his bicentennial and is recommended for mature audiences.
The new production is directed by Michael Cavanagh and stars Allison Oakes, Alfred Walker, and Gregory Frank. BLO Music Director David Angus conducts.
PLEASE NOTE: The performance on April 26th will be the US Premiere of the 1841 critical edition and will be presented without intermission (approx. 140 minutes) as originally written by Wagner. All other performance dates will be presented with an intermission. If you are currently holding tickets and prefer to attend a different performance, please contact the box office at 866-348-9738.
