School Programs

In collaboration with Boston Public Schools, the Education Department offers in-school artist residencies through the Target Arts and EdVestors Arts Expansion programs. Using curriculum guides created by the Citi Performing Arts Center Education Department, teaching artists work in classrooms of up to 30 students for multiple weeks to explore specific performance-based themes like folktales, puppetry, dance, movement, and personal storytelling, or broader topics like playwriting. Citi Center contracts local guest artists to perform for school-wide assemblies to highlight the themes covered in the classroom and open the program to the broader student population. Finally, students have the opportunity to attend performances in Boston’s Theatre District—past shows have included: The Lion King, Wicked, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, The Addams Family, Peter Pan, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Target Arts

Funded by Target and created through a partnership between Citi Performing Arts Center and Boston Public Schools, the Target Arts Program has reached nearly 5,000 students since its launch. In the 2009-2010 school year, the Target Arts Program reached 9 schools and 2800 students. In 2010-2011, the program worked in 8 schools with 2150 students. For the 2011-2012 school year, Citi Performing Arts Center plans to work with 6 Boston Public Schools and up to 1850 students.
