GET INVOLVEDFor participants under the age of 19, we offer a range of age-appropriate, all-ability workshops that bring participants into Citi Performing Arts Center to learn new skills, techniques and approaches in the arts. Workshops are led by professional teaching artists.INTERNSHIPSWe are pleased to announce the City Spotlights High School Internship program for students ages 14 - 19. City Spotlights is an excellent opportunity for energetic and creative students with an interest in the performing arts and working with the community, theater companies, professional teaching artists, students, teachers and families. This program will explore personal stories and the stories of residents from four Boston neighborhoods to begin to spotlight their individual and collective unique identities.The City Spotlights internship offers a variety of responsibilities and learning experiences, including: joining an ensemble of peers led by a performing arts professional to create an original performance piece; contributing to the creation and implementation of community workshops and performances; communicating with teaching artists, workshop participants, and theater company managers; increasing knowledge of professional job readiness skills and resources; and working cooperatively and collaboratively with members of the Citi Performing Arts CenterSM education staff on large-scale projects and administrative tasks. CITY SPOTLIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP 2009 - 2010(For ages 14 - 19)FALL SESSION September 29 - November 20 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays: 4:30 - 6:30 pm Wednesdays: 4:30 - 6:30 pm Final Showcase: Friday, November 29, 6:00 pm SPRING SESSION March 22 - May 15 Mondays and Tuesdays: 4:30 - 6:30 pm Wednesdays and Thursdays: 4:30 - 7:30 pm Fridays: 4:30 - 7:00 pm This internship includes acting training, cultivating an ensemble, teaching Fun Friday workshops and participating in Master Classes focused on professional development and job readiness skills. In the fall, create an original performance piece based on individual and collective stories that will feature four Boston neighborhoods. In the spring, join a Neighborhood Ensemble to further examine personal stories and the stories of residents from a City Spotlights featured neighborhood and perform with the Ensemble on the Shubert Theatre stage as part of City Spotlights. In April, participants will also lead Interactive Performance Workshops in and around Boston neighborhoods. Both fall and spring session participants receive a small stipend for their work in this program. There is an interview and application process for this program. CITY SPOTLIGHTS SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD ENSEMBLES(For ages 9 - Adult)March 24 - May 15 Wednesdays and Thursdays Time: 4:30 - 7:30 pm Showcase Performance: Saturday, May 15, 7:00 pm Explore personal stories and the stories of community members from the City Spotlights featured neighborhoods through performance. Help to create an original performance piece based on an examination of individual and community identities to perform on Saturday, May 15 at The Shubert Theatre. FUN FRIDAYS(For ages 11 - 13)October 16, October 30, November 13, April 9, April 16, April 30 Time: 5:30 - 7:00 pm Location: Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, 38 Ash Street, Boston Hosted by our City Spotlights High School interns and in collaboration with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, enjoy an evening of theatre games, improvisation and performing arts fun. Snacks will be served and space is limited. First come, first-served basis. Groups are invited to attend as well! INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS(For ages 9 - Adult)April 20 - April 23 School Vacation Week Attend a free, one-session Interactive Performance Workshop during City Spotlights focusing on personal stories and Boston neighborhoods. These workshops take place at Community Partner sites and other organizations in and around Boston. CELEBRATE MUSICAL THEATRE STORY SATURDAYS(For ages 7 - 11)December 5, December 12 and December 19 Time: 1:00 - 3:00 pm Location: Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston Street, Boston In collaboration with Boston Public Library, the Education Department will present musical theatre inspired Saturday workshops. Topics will range from storytelling, creative costume-making, visual art, movement, improvisation and acting. Each workshop will culminate in a short final sharing for all participants.
