BOSTON (November 10, 2014) – Josiah A. Spaulding, Jr., president & CEO of Citi Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit innovator and steward of venues as well as arts, entertainment, cultural, and educational experiences, announces the appointment of Joanne Stanway as senior director, marketing & communications. Stanway has a diverse background in public relations and marketing spanning three decades across a variety of industries ranging from healthcare to high-tech. As part of the senior staff, Stanway will be responsible for designing and managing marketing, communications, and institutional branding strategies to build awareness of Citi Performing Arts Center, its theatrical offerings at the Wang, Shubert, and Emerson Colonial theatres, and community programming.

"Citi Center is so much more than what is appearing on our iconic stages. We have a vibrant arts education program, an innovative ArtWeek that highlights unique one-of-a-kind creative experiences, and a rich history in the community,” said Spaulding. “Joanne’s breadth of experience and creative thinking are just what we need to develop a cohesive brand for the organization and communicate that brand to stakeholders and the community."

Prior to joining Citi Center, Stanway served as PR team lead at Davies Murphy Group, a high-tech public relations and marketing firm based in Burlington, where she was responsible for media relations, writing, strategy development, customer references, and training. For eight years, she also managed her own consulting business, StanwayPR, during which time she cut her teeth in the entertainment industry working with such clients as the Jonas Brothers and Boston Secession. She additionally served as PR counsel to Boston Natural Areas Network and a variety of other clients, including many with a focus on rights and employment of people with disabilities.

Prior to running her own business, Stanway served as account supervisor with The Launch Company in Concord, Chaffee & Partners, PHI Partners and Pagano Schenk & Kay, all in Rhode Island, and Arnold PR in Boston for which she managed the McDonald’s account. She also led PR and marketing for Roger Williams Park Zoo and Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. Her first professional experience was as assignment editor/associate producer for WLNE-TV in Providence. Stanway has a degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University.

"It’s an amazing professional experience to work on behalf of a Boston institution like Citi Center, and especially for the Wang Theatre, where I’ve made so many personal memories. I look forward to offering a fresh marketing and communications perspective to the team, as well as immersing myself in the arts community once again," Stanway said.

Stanway lives with her husband Phil and daughter Jaye in Chelmsford, where she is very active in the community.
